Devi Navratri Brahmacharini Puja
Brahmacharini Puja is observed on Ashwayuja Shukla Vidiya, the second day of Dasara Sharannavaratri. Goddess Brahmacharini, the second Navadurga form, is Parvati performing intense tapas to win Lord Shiva. Amid the festive bustle, this day reminds us of discipline and devotion.
Puranic background
Growing up in Himavan's home, Parvati resolved to marry only Shiva. Kalidasa's Kumarasambhavam says that when her mother Menadevi tried to stop her saying "u ma" (do not, child), her resolve did not change, and so she came to be called Uma. She did tapas through sun and rain, finally giving up even leaves and becoming Aparna. To test her, Shiva himself came disguised as a young brahmachari and spoke ill of Shiva; when Parvati rose to leave rather than hear it, he revealed his true form.
Brahmacharini appears serene, dressed in white, holding a japa mala in her right hand and a kamandalu in her left.
Puja steps

Special for students
As the embodiment of tapas and concentration, Brahmacharini is remembered especially by students and those preparing for competitive exams. Elders say that sitting quietly for japa, or taking up one good habit as a deeksha from this day, is a service dear to her. Meanwhile, Bathukamma songs and Dasara festivities fill the villages of Telangana.
Significance
Devotees believe her grace brings patience, detachment and the strength to bear hardship. Her story carries a simple message: work steadily towards the goal you have chosen.
May Mother Brahmacharini grant us all steadfastness and success.
