Meaning
The dhyana
The stuti opens with a meditation verse: krishna varnam tu varahim mahishastham mahodarim. Varahi is dark, seated on a buffalo, with a large belly and the face of a boar (sukarasya). In her right hands she shows the boon gesture and holds a staff and a sword. In her left hands are a shield, a bowl and the gesture of fearlessness.
The nine verses
Verses 1 and 2 hail her as Jaya Varahi, Vishveshi and Mukhya Varahi, and the first verse calls her dear to the Lord in the form of the earth. From verse 3 the tone changes. The names Andhini, Rundhini, Jrimbhini, Mohini and Stambhini appear, the same epithets found in Varahi's mula mantra. Verses 5 and 6 praise her as the one who can freeze the arms, the mind, the eyes, the tongue and even the whole world.
Verse 7 makes the request plain: stambhanam kuru shatrunam, halt my enemies and bring them down. Verse 8 names her as ta chatushtaya, the fourfold ta syllable, and as the phat of the mantra, and verse 9 asks her to grant every wish before saluting her three times with namas tubhyam.
The anugraha stuti
Four closing lines ask what can be hard, rare or unconquerable for one whose mind rests in her and who worships her as prescribed. The text does not name its author. Devotees use it during Varahi Navaratri in Ashadha and on Panchami days.
