Narada Jayanthi
Narada Jayanthi: The Appearance Day of Devarshi Narada
Narada Jayanthi is observed on Vaishakha Bahula Padyami, the day after Vaishakha Pournami. It honours Devarshi Narada, the mind-born son of Lord Brahma and a great devotee of Sri Maha Vishnu. North Indian calendars call it Jyeshtha Krishna Pratipada; the tithi is the same, only the month name differs.
About Sage Narada
With the veena called Mahati in his hands and "Narayana, Narayana" always on his lips, Narada travels across the three worlds. The Bhagavatam says that in an earlier birth he was the son of a maidservant who gained devotion by serving holy men, and was later born as Brahma's mind-born son. He taught devotion to Prahlada while still in his mother's womb, gave the mantra to Dhruva, and narrated the story of Rama to Valmiki, inspiring the Ramayana. The Narada Bhakti Sutras are a classic text on the path of devotion.
The "Quarrels" That Serve the World
Telugu people know the phrase "Narada kalaham". Though he seems to stir up trouble, the Puranas show that every act of his ends in the protection of dharma and the good of the world. Narada is a much-loved character in Telugu mythological films, stage dramas and Harikathas. Because he carries news across the worlds, some also remember him as the first messenger.
