Meaning

Sri Dandāyudhapaṇi Ashtakam glorifies Lord Kartikeya in His form as Dandapani — the divine bearer of the staff of discipline, protection, and grace. The hymn highlights His compassion, His role as a spiritual guide, His cosmic form, and His destruction of evil forces.

Meaning (Balanced):
The stotram begins by recalling the divine manifestation of Dandapani when sages were troubled by demons. Kartikeya appears in radiant form, offering boons and driving away fear.

During the Pushya festival He accepts offerings from devotees across regions and showers them with blessings. His divine play, beauty, and compassion are compared to the enchanting love of Krishna for the Gopikas.

The “danda” in His hand symbolizes the discipline that destroys arrogance, ego, and sinful tendencies. He uses it not to punish but to guide devotees back to dharma.

The hymn celebrates His victory over Tarakasura, Shurapadma, Simhavaktra, and countless demons, safeguarding the gods. It also describes His boundless cosmic form, equal to countless universes, His six-faced manifestation, and His unity with Shiva–Shakti.

In the concluding verse, it proclaims that those who recite this Ashtakam obtain all their heartfelt wishes by His grace.

A powerful hymn that portrays Dandapani as protector, teacher, destroyer of evil, cosmic being, and bestower of spiritual bliss.
